I went to CKC (Creating Keepsakes Convention, the big scrapbook magazine). I had saved some money to spend there if I wanted to, but am trying to save for a new computer that works. Mine broke, literally won't turn on. I'm now using a semi broken laptop that has a broken photo program and turns off on me at random times, ugh!! Double UGH!! Which is why I haven't posted anything for a while & why I am posting crummy pics from my cell phone. Seams to be the only way I can get pics on my computer is send them to my e-mail, put in a folder and upload from there, hasstle!! Anyway...sorry I got sidetracked, just a little background there... So at CKC I told myself I wasn't going to buy something just to buy something. I've been purging and going through ALL and I mean every little scrap! In my scrap room & I didn't want to bring home MORE STUFF to add to it. So I decided I could only buy something if I was running out of it & needed to stalk up for a good deal or it was something I didn't have, something new and exciting. I was back and forth on this big splurge, but I'm SO SO glad I did it! I have fallen completely in love with this new way of journaling! I bought everything from Basic Grey. It was a journal that you write what you did every day for the 25 days of Christmas, you add pictures in the picture sleeve pages and you put memorabilia in the pocket pages. I seriously think I want to do this year round! So I also bought the kit that goes w/it to decorate it all cute! So much fun! I am really enjoying writing about our day at the end of each night & I'm journaling SO much more then I normally do! SO MUCH MORE!!! Sorry I only have cell phone pics, but here's what it looks like.
This is the pocket page you can see through the clear photo sleve page. I haven't printed any pics yet.
This is the day 1 in my journal. I don't know if I had more fun decorating the book or writing in it!!
This is the cover after I decorated it. I just followed her directions and made it just like hers.
I highly recomend this book!! I'm so glad I bought it! Merry Christmas everyone!
I got the bug to make a banner for my family to hold for our Christmas card picture this year. Here's how I did it....
I just made this out of whatever I had on hand, so if you were to do this and wanted it fancier you might buy nicer stuff. I am also not a real sewer, so don't look to closely if you are, haha! I wanted it to have a simple not finished look, so I'm ok w/the imperfections in it.
Step 1. Find the fabric of choice and cut out 2 triangles a bigger and a smaller one. I cut the bigger triangle about 6" accross & the smaller one about 4" accross.
Step 2. I just simply overlapped the triangles & sewed w/a zig zag stitch all the way accross to attach them.
Step 3. Using a cricut or other cutting machine cut out words to make a stencil. I didn't repeat any letters, I just reused the "o" and other repeated letters.
Step 4. I'm sure fabric paint would be best. I just used Tempura paint b/c that's what I had on hand. Clip stencil to help hold it in place. Remember to tuck the fabric back, so it won't soak through onto the bottom layer. I realized after I messed up a few times. It would have been better to do the painting 1st then the sewing. That way if you mess up on a letter, you can just cut a new triangle & paint a new one. Ooops! Luckily for me, it doesn't bother me too much. My saying is "oh well, it's home made". :)
Step 5. Pick ribbon of choice, loop it & sew it on the back side. I also went back and reinforced the in-between parts where the flags attach to eachother, to just to make sure it holds up good.
Whalla! Here is is finished. I couldn't find a blank wall big enough to hand it for the picture. Good thing we have a big family to hold it, it turned out pretty big.
I just found out I made the next round!! Here's my card for round 3. The challenge was to use flag(s) and or banner(s) and the word "happy". I make it to the next round by votes (anonymous don't count), so I'd LOVE your votes!! http://www.practicalscrappers.com/2011/10/card-contest-finalists-round-three.html You can vote every day 1 time per day. You just comment at the bottom of the post that you vote for Chrystie Desmet's card. (Your comment won't show up b/c they don't want people knowing who's winning, but your vote will be counted!) And MUCH appreciated!! :)
Thanks so much for your help!! :)
Thanks to you and some good friends and family's votes, I was able to not only make my goal of making it past the 1st round (the judges from Practical Scrapers). I also made it through round 1 and 2 (voting by people on your card)!! This card was for the 2nd round of voting. The challenge for this card was to make the theme anything Fall related and to include bakers twine on the card. I'm loving these challenges. You should try making your own w/the same challenges or make a challenge up w/only 2 instructions. It's really stretching me creatively and I"m really enjoying it! I find out tomorrow if I made it to the next round.... I already have my card made, I'll post it when I hear if I made the next round....

The only guidline they gave was there needs to be pink somewhere on the card. I've already made my card for round 2, just not sure if I'll make round 2 or not, depends on the # of votes I get each day through Thursday the 6th! :) I'll post my 2nd round card soon...
I went away with my family (my parents & siblings that is). It was really fun I had never done that before just them & me. I'm much older then my siblings & my parents don't really vacation, so it was a very treasured memory for all of us! We celebrated my sister's 19th birthday in Ocean Shores & stayed in a million $ home right on the beach for free, it pays to have connections! :) The ladies (my mom, my sister & I) are all creative, crafty women, so we decided to bring some craft stuff along & just have fun with it. (My brother even got in on the fun, Shhhhhhh don't tell him I told you, ha ha). :) I brought some framed canvas for each of us and a bunch of scrapbook supplies. I have always wanted to do some mixed media stuff, but never had tried gluing something on to canvas or anything. It was SO much fun, that I'm pretty sure I'll be doing it again sometime!! Here's what I ended up with....
Close ups of the 3D stuff & the paper & stuff I wrapped around the side of the canvas. The base I put on top of the canvas was just a piece of scrapbook paper, then I built up the rest of the stuff on top. I added some glitter glue behind the bike & some paint "rain drops" as well as a little splash of green shimmer mist spray. Most of the stuff I cut out of scrapbook magazines, some is stuff I use for scraping. I made the flowers that stick up. I just had fun with it.
I'm really not sure why this picture is sideways, nor do I know how to fix it, ug! I guess you can get the idea if you tilt your head to the right.
I just got back from a scrapbook weekend and this LO was my favorite. I had fun doing some really cute princess ones of my youngest in Disneyland & love those too, but I really like how this one turned out. I've been wanted to try out banners forever, but never had till now. I also did some sewing & wrapping on my Disneyland letters that was fun! Then I spritzed it w/some green glimmer mist to finish it off.
My hubby and I have really gotten into hitting up the local Re Store for the freebie section. You can find some pretty decent stuff in there Shhhhh, I don't want word to get out! :) So I found a couple free old cabinets and decided to turn them into chalk boards for my kiddos. I love quick & easy projects! Here's the before and afters.
My son taped this one before I got the before picture. I was ok w/the help & not the picture. :)
I really liked the look of this one & didn't know if I wanted to cover up the cool looking boards, but decided to go for it. My hubs cut a board to fit so it would be smooth for a chalk board.
I simply sprayed on the chalk paint (next time I think I'll get the one you brush on, probably will make a better coat).
Here's the finished chalk board for my girls room.
A closer look at the detail.
The boys chalk board. Of coarse I had to test it out! :) I used the chalk pens, not sure how they erase yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
